Most impact indicators and tilt sensors make use of simple surface tension technology to identify and notify consignees of when and where damages occur to their shipments in transit.
These technologies wouldn’t be as effective, however, if they were susceptible to being tempered with. So to answer your question, I would have to say no, generally impact indicators can’t be tampered with by handlers.
I will add a caveat, however, which is that the safety and reliability of your impact indicator also depends on which impact sensor company you choose to get your indicators from.
Thanks to the peculiarities of certain indicators, they may be more susceptible to tampering than others. Luckily, these cases of sensor tampering occur only in very, very rare cases.
Most manufacturers go to great extent to ensure that their products are tamper proof and completely reliable. All you have to do is find one of them and you’re good to go.
