It can be gauged by the fact that cricket is no more treated as sports but as a festival. And
Indians don't take their festivals easy.
Over the last few years, various leagues of Kabaddi, Football, Kho-Kho have gain momentum, but
far from giving them their due.
Government is now becoming more agile, and various schemes are being launched to uplift the
popularity of other games but still, things are in the pecking order.
It is paradoxical that second most populous country in the world struggles to mention its name in
under 100 FIFA world ranking. The commercialisation of cricket is another big reason for it shot up in
popularity.
The stark difference between the medal won by India and by other nations in Olympics, Common
Wealth Games speaks volume about the plummeting standard of various sports.
now the Indian government also takes the initiative to revamp the other sports status in India.
