A five-panel cap – as the name indicates – has five panels on its crown.
The crown is the main rounded structure of the hat. And panels are the triangular pieces of fabric stitched together to form the crown.
The most common cap styles come with 5, 6, or 7 panels.
Five-panel hats are best for custom decoration as their seamless front panel allows uninterrupted room for the design. Beyond that, the differences in the number of panels are mostly a matter of personal style.
